Here are some helpful answers to

the most common questions we receive.

Q. I HEAR MY TOILET RUN BETWEEN USES - IS THIS A SERIOUS PROBEM?

A. That noise involves the water tank refilling to maintain a predetermined water level. When the water escapes from the tank to the bowl, water bills increase proportionately. Run a test by turning off the water supply to your toilet water tank. If you notice that the tank’s water level goes down, call a Kelleher Plumbing Pro for advice or service.

Q. HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO CHANGE AIR FILTERS?

A. Blocked air filters are a leading cause of failure in heating and air-conditioning systems. Air starvation causes systems to operate under overloaded conditions, thus shortening the life of indoor units and attached outdoor units alike. Check and clean or change system air filters at least every 30 days. For advice, service or a free air filter change reminder, call the Pros at Kelleher.

Q. SOME OF MY OUTLETS ARE NOT WORKING, BUT THE REST ARE WORKING JUST FINE. WHY?

A. This sounds like a blown circuit (or fuse depending on the age of your home), which is easy to fix on your own. First, located your circuit box. Once you find the power box you have to determine which circuit has blown. If you open the box and find circuit breakers (i.e. switches that move left/right or up/down) you may notice that one of the "toggles" is out of line with all the others. To reset it, move the toggle to the full "off" position, then back to "on." If it is not clear which one is tripped, simply reset all the breakers in the box.

If, upon opening the power box you find fuses (i.e. glass "dials" that unscrew like a light bulb), look for a dark or burnt spot in the center of any of the fuses and replace it with another fuse of the exact same amperage (always stamped on the bottom of the fuse, e.g. 15, 20, 30). Blown fuses sometimes look perfectly good, so if this is the case, you must replace all of them one by one with a good spare, each time checking if the power comes back on. For advice, service or a free air filter change reminder, call the Pros at Kelleher.
